The future global leadership and economic growth of the United States, and the State of New Jersey, depend on well educated, self-sufficient, contributing citizens. Lifetime earnings and leadership roles depend greatly on the level of education. We urgently need to increase our high school and four-year college graduation rates. In order to do so, students and their families must receive information, academic support, and financial assistance to remain in high school and seek a college education.

The goal of the Rutgers Future Scholars program is to increase the numbers of academically ambitious high school graduates who come from low-income backgrounds, help them meet the standards to be admitted to colleges and universities, and then provide tuition funding to those who are admitted and choose to attend Rutgers University.

Students entering eighth grade will be selected in cooperation with school district administrators. There is no cost for students and families to participate. Students will enjoy academic, social/cultural, and career development support beginning with the summer before entering eighth grade and continuing throughout their four years of high school and into college.
