The ALI Youth Media Symposium develops youth leadership in schools and the community. The program introduces Newark students ages 13-18 to educational advocacy through the use of media technology as a tool for social change. YMS has held seven successful year-long sessions and nine intensive 6 week summer programs. During this time, the program has developed a core group of young student leaders who understand they have a voice and responsibility to use it to improve public schools. Participants have developed advocacy skills such as public speaking, interviewing techniques, and videography and production in order to communicate their understanding about their schools and education policy and practices to their peers as well as adult decision makers.
Students meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00pm - 6:00pm on the Rutgers Newark Campus.
